Virat Kohli plays an uncharacteristic slog to lose his stumps

Indian opener Virat Kohli was dismissed for only nine runs off nine balls in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final against England. His average in this tournament now reads 10.7 after seven innings.

That Kohli has failed to deliver the goods in this event is a tough pill to swallow for the Indians fans given he was coming on the back of an impressive Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, where he amassed more than 700 runs.

The pitch in Guyana was bound to play tacky due to the rain, and the lack of bounce was evident in Kohli’s dismissal. This was his fifth single-digit score in T20 World Cup 2024 out of seven innings. He’s so far managed only 75 runs at a strike rate of 100.

India are currently 65/2 in 8 overs after being asked to bat first. Both teams were unchanged for the high-stakes clash.

Throughout the tournament, India have preferred to put runs on the board and then unleash their spinners upon the opposition. England, on the other hand, have always looked to field first and then chase the runs down.
