Quick release and direct hit: Nortje runs out Russell

Anrich Nortje‘s spectacular run-out of Andre Russell was a standout moment in the ICC T20 World cup Super 8 clash between South Africa and West Indies. The moment of fielding brilliance transpired during the 18th over of the West Indies innings when Akeal Hosein knocked a delivery from Kagiso Rabada to short third man, prompting Russell to sprint towards the striker’s end.

Nortje was quick to gather the ball and released it in one fell swoop, executing a direct hit that managed to catch Russell just short of his ground. This dismissal impacted the momentum West Indies had been building up, paving the way for South Africa’s improved position in the game.

After the game, losing captain Rovman Powell expressed his thoughts on the the Caribbean side’s performance and their journey in the marquee event. He acknowledged the disappointing batting show, particularly in the middle overs where they lost wickets in a bunch. Powell, however, commended his team’s fighting spirit in an arduous defence of 135.
