Dushmantha Chameera ruled out of India T20Is

Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the India series, which commences on July 27. According to a Sri Lanka Cricket media release, Chameera is still recovering from bronchitis and a respiratory infection he contracted.

Renowned for his express pace and the ability to hustle batters off the deck, the 32 year-old Chameera has scalped 55 wickets in T20Is for Sri Lanka in as many games at an economy hovering around 8.09. He has had a debilitating tryst with injuries though, especially since 2022.

Asitha Fernando, who has taken Chameera’s spot, has played only 3 T20Is so far. However, he produced a match winning spell in the Lanka Premier League final picking up 3 for 35 with the key wickets of Tim Seifert, Janith Liyanage and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. He blew hot and cold overall, finishing the LPL with only 7 wickets in 9 games at an economy of 9.71.
