Game awareness on show as Jos Buttler runs out Heinrich Klaasen

South Africa made 63/0 in the powerplay but could only manage 100/6 in the next 14 overs in the Super 8 Group 2 match against England. The spin duo of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali pulled things back after the powerplay and disallowed the Proteas to run away with the momentum. Jofra Archer conceded 21 off his opening over, but proved his mettle in the next 3 as he offered just 19 whilst picking up 3 wickets at crucial junctures of the game.

With just 164 runs to get and Phil Salt getting a quick start, all England had to do was take the game deep with wickets in hand but they found themselves tottering at 61/4. Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers with Kagiso Rabada and Ottneil Baartman joining hands for a wicket each.

However, Harry Brook had a clear plan and batted sensibly. Liam Livingstone was middling the ball pretty well and the Proteas started the feel the heat. Rabada leaked 18 in an over, Anrich Nortje followed up with a 13-run over but it was particularly Baartman who dished out five full tosses in a 21-run over to turn the game on its head.

Rabada and Marco Jansen came back to deliver a great 18th and 19th over where they conceded only 11 combined to leave Nortje with 13 runs to defend off the final over. Luckily for the Proteas, Brook mishit the first ball as Markram took a great catch and Nortje managed to close the game out for his side.
