Chris Silverwood admitted in a virtual press conference via the ECB that England could have ‘returned to plan A’ earlier than they did. He was referring to their initial short-ball strategy to tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, which some claimed was borne more out of pettiness than tactical shrewdness, after Bumrah served up a volley of short stuff at Jimmy Anderson on day three. Silverwood mentioned that England need to improve when it comes to bowling at the lower order, producing their best, fuller deliveries more often, but emphasised just how impressed he was by how India handled the situation.
