Washington Sundar added to India squad for remaining NZ Tests

India have added spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar to their squad for the last two Tests against New Zealand in Pune and Mumbai respectively. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has represented India in four Tests, including the epoch-making victory at the Gabba in Brisbane, which marked his debut in the format.

India squad for 2nd and 3rd Test versus New Zealand: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar.

Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s fielding coach revealed that the move to add Washington Sundar in the Test squad was made keeping an eye on New Zealand’s squad composition as the Kiwis have a quartet of left-handers in the prospective XI. Washington was called up shortly after the first Test in Bengaluru after he had scored an impressive 152 against Delhi while batting at No.3 in the Ranji Trophy fixture in the capital. He will join up with the India squad ahead of the second Test in Pune, starting from October 24.
