Devon Conway’s one-handed specky removes Sarfaraz Khan

Things went further downhill for India in the post-lunch session on day two of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. The hosts only managed to add 12 more runs to their total after the break, folding for a record low total in home Tests of 46 all out.

Matt Henry finished with an awesome 5 for 15 while William O’Rourke ended with an equally potent for 22 to demolish India. In reply, Devon Conway (61*) spearheaded New Zealand’s innings and bossed the half-century opening stand with skipper Tom Latham to reinforce New Zealand’s dominance. India’s only moment of respite in the session came when they reviewed successfully to snare Latham off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav.

As the post-lunch session progressed, the sun peeked out and conditions brightened, making batting relatively easier. However, there is still some juice there in the pitch for the quicks and that is where India might rue their squad composition. Spin could come in handy later in the game but for India to remain alive in the contest till then, they will need an incredible show from their bowlers in this first innings.

Brief scores: India 46 (Matt Henry 5-15, William ORourke 4-22) trail New Zealand 82/1 (Devon Conway 61*) by 36 runs.
