Punjab Kings unlikely to renew Trevor Bayliss’ contract

Going forward, Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of the Punjab Kings franchise, may no longer be associated with the franchise. His two-year contract with Punjab Kings has ended, and the franchise is not keen on renewing it.

According to sources, PBKS are on the lookout for an Indian coach to marshal the troops, with Sanjay Bangar, who has served as the head coach of the franchise and is currently the director of cricket development, being one of the potential candidates.

Rahul Dravid’s glorious alliance with the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir and Chandrakant Pandit’s contribution to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ triumphant IPL campaign last season, and Ashish Nehra’s association with the uber-successful Gujarat Titans means that Indian coaches are the toast of the town. Sourav Ganguly continues to aid the Delhi Capitals’ coaching staff, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have procured the services of Dinesh Karthik as a batting coach and mentor for the upcoming season.

Bayliss (61) has had three different tenures with three different franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings – and a noteworthy stint with the England team in between. His T20 record across tournaments during the last five years has been nothing to write home about – be it with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sydney Thunder or Punjab Kings. Bayliss took over from Anil Kumble ahead of the 2023 season.
