Sophie Ecclestone’s 2/16 helps England rout New Zealand

Leg-spinner Sarah Glenn produced figures of 4 for 19, including 11 dots and two double-wicket overs as England continued to stamp their authority over New Zealand at home. Glenn’s efforts combined with that of Sophie Ecclestone (2-16) helped England roll over the visitors for just 103/8. England then chased the lowly total down with 8.3 overs and seven wickets to spare.

New Zealand openers made a decent start to push the team to 33/0 in the PowerPlay but once Glenn castled Georgia Plimmer on the first ball of the seventh over, all hell broke loose. New Zealand soon fell to 52 for 5 in the 12th over before Maddy Green and Isabella Gaze undertook the repair job. They could, however, only took the score as far as 80 together before Glenn removed the former. Jess Kerr then became Glenn’s fourth victim of the game.

Danielle Wyatt and Sophie Dunkley extinguished any hopes of a fight in the Kiwi defence with an ebullient stand of 54 in just five overs. In the matter of the next dozen balls, England alarmingly lost three wickets but had Nat-Sciver Brunt and captain Heather Knight to see the chase through.

Brief Scores: New Zealand 103/8 in 20 overs (Isabella Gaze 25, Maddy Green 24; Sarah Glenn 4-19, Sophie Ecclestone 2-16) lost to England 104/3 in 11.3 overs (Danielle Wyatt 26, Sophie Dunkley 26) by 7 wickets
