Jos Butter’s top-edge caught by deep backward square leg

Buttler departs.

England girded up their loins for the World Cup with a tricky win over Bangladesh in the warm-up fixture at Guwahati. In a rain-affected clash, England came on top by four wickets. Tanzid Hasan gave Bangladesh a healthy start even though Reece Topley sent Litton Das and Najmul Shanto packing early. However, once Mark Wood got rid of Tanzid for 44, Bangladesh were under the pump at 153/5 after 30 overs.

Due to the hour-long pause, the game was reduced to 37 overs per side. Bangladesh lost the plot henceforth with only Mehidy Hasan shining bright with a crucial 74. With the Asian Tigers finishing with 188/9, England were asked to chase down 197 owing to DLS. Even though Dawid Malan fell in the first over, England kept their foot on the pedal and chased the total in 24.1 overs, albeit Joe Root did play the sheet anchor.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 188/9 in 37 overs (Mehidy Hasan Miraz 74, Tanzid Hasan 45; Reece Topley 3-23) lost to England 197/6 in 24.1 overs (Moeen Ali 56, Jonny Bairstow 34; Mustafizur Rahman 2/23) by 4 wickets (DLS method)
