Jaiswal, Gill share record 165-run opening stand as India draw level

Jaiswal cashes in.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (84*) and Shubhman Gill’s (77) record-setting 165-run alliance equalized the five-match T20I series for India against West Indies with an emphatic 9-wicket win in Florida, setting up a delectable decider on Sunday. The young turks put on the joint highest opening partnership for India to make light work of the 179-run target.

After a wonderful start to Test cricket, Jaiswal brought up his maiden T20I fifty during his unbeaten 84 off 51. Gill eventually flicked a full delivery on the pads straight to deep midwicket, falling for 47-ball 77 but the writing was on the wall for the hosts. A thumping nine-wicket win – the highest successful chase in Florida’s limited international hosting experience – helped India draw the rubber level after conceding a 2-nil lead.

The decider will take place on August 13 at the same venue.
