Sams was thus crowned the 2023 Vitality Blast Player of the Year after a jumbo season with both bat and ball. The Essex all-rounder scored a mighty impressive 419 runs and snared 25 wickets during the Vitality Blast 2023 as his side finished second best.

Inserted, Somerset struggled to find any rhythm and could only attain 142 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Despite Sams wielding his willow to hand a scare, Somerset won the low-scoring contest by a slim margin.

A spectacular one-handed catch by Tom Kohler-Cadmore thwarted Sams’ endeavor of lifting the trophy for Essex, dismissing him for 45 off 26 in the final to seize a 14-run victory for Somerset.

Sams received his Vitality Blast Player of the Year trophy along with £2,500 at Edgbaston.
