Jadeja edges a beauty from Boland

Jadeja walks back.

India dared to dream of a win in the World Test Championship finale, with 280 runs needed on the final day to lift the mace. Their hopes hinged on Virat Kohli to a large extent, but Scott Boland and Steve Smith entwined to get rid of the big fish. Boland dealt another blow to India in the same over, nicking Ravindra Jadeja off as Australia put one hand firmly on the trophy.

Kohli played and missed outside off to a Boland delivery, with Australia losing a review in the process. In the same over Kohli went hard at a slightly wide delivery, looking to drive, but offered an outside edge that was caught superbly by an airborne Smith at second slip. He departs for 49, leaving India in trouble at 179/4.

Much like the last session on Day 4, Kohli and Rahane were looking assured at the crease in the first few overs on Day 5 at Lord’s. There was a streaky boundary for Rahane when he got a bit of wood while trying to duck under a Pat Cummins bouncer, but both batters had been untroubled otherwise, milking singles to the third man region.
