Meg Lanning has been ruled out of the upcoming Ashes tour of England due to medical reasons, Cricket Australia notified on Saturday, May 27. The 31-year-old, on the advice of Cricket Australia’s medical staff, has withdrawn from the squad and will manage her medical issue from home.
Lanning last featured against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in Cape Town in February this year, having returned to action in January after a lengthy break to prioritize her mental health. She also led Delhi Capitals in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League, where her franchise lost to Mumbai Indians in the grand finale.
Alyssa Healy will captain Australia in the Ashes while Tahlia McGrath has been named her deputy. CA haven’t named any replacement for Lanning, with Australia having the option of slotting in players from Australia A who will also be touring the United Kingdom simultaneously. The Women’s Ashes comprises of a one-off Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
