The trend of shaky starts continued for Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League 2023 as they lost both Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Trent Boult inside the first six overs. The credit for the wickets, however, belonged to Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma who latched onto excellent catches. First, Roy’s whip that seemed destined to go all the way was intercepted by Hetmyer right at the edge of the boundary. Gurbaz then drove aerially and was caught in smart fashion by Sandeep Sharma at mid-off.
Having endured yet another false start, Kolkata Knight Riders ended up with a mere 149/8 in 20 overs. Jaiswal enabled Rajasthan Royals to polish off more than half their target by the end of the PowerPlay, and continued in the same hyper-aggressive vein even as the field opened up. Jaiswal raced to a 13-ball half-century – the fastest-ever in the history of the tournament – and finished with 98* off 47 as the visitors registered victory with 9 wickets and 41 balls to spare.
