Rishabh Pant made the schoolboy error of ball-watching and not calling loud and clear as KL Rahul found himself at the same end as his partner. Having nudged the ball to mid-wicket, Pant took a couple of quick steps down the pitch, giving Rahul the impression that the run was on. He then backed off abruptly when Temba Bavuma made a diving stop, although the throw at the non-striker’s end was fumbled by the bowler, Keshav Maharaj, to allow Rahul a chance of recovering his ground. The man backing up the throw couldn’t collect it cleanly either and the comedy of errors meant Rahul sprinted back to safety at the non-striker’s end.
