The spell came at a crucial time, with the White Ferns chasing just 183 from 42 overs, revised from the 197 all out struck by the hosts in 43.3 overs after a rain delay. Looking comfortable before the break at 111/4, New Zealand crumbled to 161/9, eventually falling 13 runs short of the mark with 18 balls left.
