On this day in 2009, Tim Paine struck his maiden century for Australia, hitting 111 off 148 against England in a One Day International. The knock came opening the batting and just a month after Paine’s international debut against Scotland, and the wicketkeeper-batsman has been on quite the journey since. Having been out of the equation for a considerable period until 2017/18, he has since provided the fresh face Australia required after “Sandpapergate”, partnering with head coach Justin Langer to restore the trust between the public and national cricket team. Paine will be desperate to establish himself more emphatically as a batsman in the Test arena, though, having not passed 100 in international cricket since that day in 2009.
