On this day in 1999, Sri Lanka earned their first ever victory over Australia in Test matches. It was a baptism of fire for Shane Warne, who was playing in his first game as captain of the tourists. The man of the match went to Aravinda de Silva for his scores of 78 and 31 not out as he and Arjuna Ranatunga chased down the target of 95. The home side had bowled Australia out for 188 and 140 in the first and second innings respectively, posting 234 in between. The win, achieved inside three days, sparked raucous scenes in Kandy.
