Jasprit Bumrah bowled a match-winning spell on Monday afternoon of 6-3-6-2 against England at the Oval, a period Joe Root himself highlighted as the one that changed the game. Bumrah began by bowling at Root and Ollie Pope, bowling the latter through the gate with a viscious inswinger that Pope could only play around. This was followed up with a searing yorker to Jonny Bairstow, removing England’s wicketkeeper-batsman for a duck. The bowling was good enough even to perturb Root, who had to rely on every bit of his subsantial ability and form to get a bat on deliveries flying past his nose and at his toes on the previously docile wicket.
